Fellowship_ and_Education
Ophthalmologists specializing in pediatric ophthalmology undertake this intensive fellowship after their medical school, internship, and ophthalmology residency training have been completed. It is the pinnacle of the medical educational process and provides the basis for a meaningful career in pediatric ophthalmology. We recognize this and strive to provide an outstanding training program. We accept one United States fellow and one international fellow per year. Fellows are selected on the basis of their academic credentials and personal character. Preference will be for applicants who will return to underserved areas, and for those with clinical research and teaching aspirations.
Dr. Wright teaching international fellows.
United States Fellowship Program

This Fellowship Program is a one-year program based at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with rotations at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. It is an approved program, certified and monitored by the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS). Training includes both hands on experience and didactic sessions. The fellow will have personalized interaction with program faculty, concentrating on clinical and surgical experience (with a strong attention to surgical technique). The average number of surgical cases during the fellowship year is over 200. Education emphasizes clinical acumen, surgical skills, research, and the need for practicing humanistic medicine.
To Apply: Applicants for our US fellowship need to register an application for the match at the SFMatch website http://www.sfmatch.org. If you have questions please contact Gabby Williams our coordinator at gwilliams34@gmail.com or call our office – 310-652-6420.
International Fellowship Program

This is a 6 month to one-year fellowship that starts the first of July or first of February each year. Most of the activity is centered at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, working directly with Dr. Wright. The fellow will experience personalized interaction with program faculty, concentrating on research and the application of this research to clinical and surgical diagnosis and treatment.
